There are numerous methods for identifying directions in the wild, but most are relatively cumbersome to apply.<\/p>

Today, We will introduce a method I have personally used for orientation using a iron filament.<\/p>

This guide includes a step-by-step demonstration with visuals to enhance understanding.<\/p>

I. Floating Method<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>

The materials required for this method are simple: a thin iron filament. It is easy to source and convenient to use.<\/p>

Procedure:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>

Take a 10cm<\/strong> iron filament. Straighten it with your fingers and rub it against a magnet several times (this enhances the wire\u2019s directional sensitivity and speed).<\/p>

Using water surface tension, gently place the wire horizontally on calm water, allowing it to float freely. The iron filament will gradually align itself in a north-south orientation.<\/p>

A common question arises: How to determine which end points north?<\/p>

Two solutions:<\/strong><\/strong><\/p>

1.Test in a known directional environment and mark the northern end of the iron filament.<\/p>

2.Combine with sunlight positioning\u2014the end closer to the sun typically indicates the southern direction.<\/p>

Use a 40cm<\/strong> <\/strong>iron filament (length adjustable, but avoid being too short).<\/p>

Tie the string to the midpoint of the iron filament and adjust for balance to keep it horizontal.<\/p>

The iron filament will swiftly align itself to the north-south axis.<\/p>
